Actors’ Trust Launches Winter Grant for Actors and Stage Managers
Actors’ Trust has announced the introduction of its Winter Support Grant, a new initiative designed to assist actors and stage managers facing unexpected financial pressures during the winter period. As a charity committed to supporting the performing arts workforce, Actors’ Trust recognises that this time of year can bring additional strain, particularly for individuals managing irregular employment and uncertain income.
Actors’ Trust continues to see that many actors and stage managers have limited financial reserves to absorb sudden costs, and the significant impact these unexpected expenses can have, especially when individuals are unable to work due to health concerns or major life events.
In response, the Winter Support Grant will provide small grants, typically around £350, to help mitigate the burden of unforeseen financial challenges. These may include urgent travel requirements, increases in essential household bills, or other unexpected expenses. While the programme cannot support individuals experiencing financial hardship solely due to a lack of work, it is intended to offer timely and practical assistance to those whose circumstances have changed abruptly.
Recognising the complexity of personal financial situations, Actors’ Trust will also offer tailored guidance to applicants. Through its Grants and Services Team, and with the support of specialist partners, including Pennysmart, the charity will help individuals access the most appropriate advice and support for their circumstances.
Alison Wyman, Chief Executive of Actors’ Trust, commented: “We are acutely aware that the winter months can place added pressure on those working in the performing arts. Our Winter Support Grant is designed to ensure that actors and stage managers have access to meaningful, compassionate support when unexpected costs arise.
“Even a modest grant can provide crucial stability during a challenging period, and our team is committed to offering both practical assistance and informed guidance. At a time of year traditionally associated with connection and giving, we want to ensure that members of our community do not face financial difficulties in isolation.”
The programme is open to actors and stage managers who meet the charity’s established eligibility criteria. Applicants do not need to be experiencing a health condition or major life event, but they must demonstrate financial strain resulting from unforeseen circumstances. Those affected by significant health issues or major life events, such as recent bereavement, are encouraged to apply to the charity’s main grant programme.
Applications for the Winter Support Grant have opened today and will remain open until shortly before the charity’s offices close for the Christmas period, allowing sufficient time for all applications to be reviewed and processed.
Actors’ Trust remains deeply committed to supporting actors and stage managers through periods of instability. This programme forms part of the charity’s ongoing efforts to provide responsive and compassionate support to those working within the performing arts.
