This was my first visit to Ironworks Studios in Brighton, and what a special venue it is. As we arrived, a pulsing 1980s DJ set was already setting the tone for an energetic and immersive evening. Steve Barrey's debut play, Flutter-Bye, tells the story of a community brought together by shared memory and music.
Barrey's writing has a raw, propulsive quality that suits the venue perfectly. The performances are committed throughout and the production's relationship with its unique industrial space is inventive and exploited fully. A genuinely exciting new voice in Brighton's already rich theatre scene.
