Who We Are
Sounds & Stage is an independent UK media outlet covering theatre and live entertainment. Our registered contact address is: [email protected]. References to "we", "us" or "our" mean Sounds & Stage. We are the data controller for information collected through this website.
What Data We Collect
Account data: When you register, we collect your name and email address.
Subscription data: If you subscribe to Stagey Klub, we store your subscription status and expiry date. Payment card data is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers.
Newsletter: When you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address and subscription preferences.
Purchase data: For magazine purchases and donations, we store your email, the amount paid, and your Stripe payment reference.
Usage data: We log page view counts per article (no personal data stored with views). We do not currently use third-party analytics that track individuals.
Contact forms: When you contact us, we store your name, email and message.
How We Use Your Data
To provide the services you have signed up for (account, newsletter, subscriptions, purchases); to send transactional emails (purchase receipts, subscription confirmations, welcome emails); to send our newsletter if you have opted in; to respond to enquiries; to improve our editorial content.
Legal Basis (UK GDPR)
Contract performance: fulfilling subscriptions and purchases. Legitimate interests: sending editorial newsletters to subscribers who have opted in. Consent: cookie preferences. Legal obligation: retaining transaction records.
Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access the data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten"); object to processing; data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
Newsletter & Marketing Emails
We only send marketing emails to people who have explicitly subscribed. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe at any time from your account page or by emailing us.
Third-Party Services
Stripe (payment processing — their privacy policy governs card data); Google (OAuth for Gmail import feature — read-only, no data stored beyond your email address); PHPMailer/SMTP (email delivery via Gmail SMTP). We do not sell your data to any third party.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies. A cookie consent notice is shown on first visit.
Data Retention
Account data: retained while your account is active and for 2 years after last login. Transaction records: 7 years (legal requirement). Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe. Deleted accounts: data anonymised within 30 days of deletion request.
